Our view

“Lost Souls” is a dark, atmospheric and assured debut, a vampire novel steeped in longing. Poppy Z. Brite follows drifting young people and vampires on a melancholy journey in search of meaning and somewhere to belong, and gives Steve and Ghost, familiar from Brite’s short stories, their only full-length outing. Some readers are drawn in from the start by its atmosphere and characters. Lovers of gothic, mournful horror should seek it out.
