Our view
“Endymion” swaps the dense structure of the first two Hyperion Cantos books for a straightforward, more cinematic adventure. New characters and a story set centuries later mean it almost stands alone and is easier to follow, while its ideas about religion and science pushed to extremes keep it from being mere entertainment. Those awed by the earlier volumes often rank it below them. The closing pages lead straight into the final book.
