Our view
The third Hitchhiker’s book is the most tightly plotted so far: a single goal, saving the universe from destruction, pulls the digressions into something like a line. The absurdist humour remains the point, however; readers left cold by the first two volumes are unlikely to be converted here. Short at 210 pages, and best for those already fond of Adams’s sideways logic.
