Our view
“Death of Kings” keeps Cornwell’s balance of adventure and history in the sixth novel of “The Saxon Stories”. Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the Saxon warlord, stands against the Danes as they invade Wessex and Mercia once more, and some readers enjoy finding him older and more settled in his loyalties. As a late volume it is best read after the five before it.
