Our view
Bernard Cornwell’s “Warriors of the Storm” is a brisk, action-filled ninth Saxon Stories novel that sends an ageing Uhtred from Mercia to Ireland. Some readers rank it among the stronger entries and enjoy Uhtred’s scenes with his children; others find it pleasant but unremarkable and stay for the supporting cast, from Finan to Aethelflaed. It is a book for long-standing companions of Uhtred.
