Our view
“Underlord” is a build-up volume that earns its place, readying Cradle’s young fighters for a worldwide tournament. The revelations that come with advancement give the characters a little more depth, which some readers find rare in this series. As the sixth of twelve books it leans on the five before it and is no place to begin.
