“The Power” takes one simple reversal and follows it through to its uncomfortable conclusions. Women gain the ability to deliver electric shocks and become the stronger sex. Its sharpest tool is language: the wording itself shifts almost unnoticed as the balance tips. The story moves between several characters, and some readers lose track of whose thread is whose. Dark, pointed, and best for those who like speculative fiction that argues.

About the book
The Power is a 2016 science fiction novel by the British writer Naomi Alderman. Its central premise is of women developing the ability to release electrical jolts from their fingers, which allows them to become the dominant sex. In 2017, it won the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction.
