Our view
“The Year of the Flood” retells the collapse in Atwood’s dystopian trilogy from new viewpoints, alongside the first book. The pleasure lies in watching the two accounts interlock, so some readers wish they had read it sooner after “Oryx and Crake”. Others find it less startling than its predecessor, or harder to stay with. Dark and absorbing, it deepens the trilogy more than it advances it.
