Our view
“The Poet” is Connelly without Harry Bosch: a dark, intense crime novel with the reporter Jack McEvoy at its centre. Some readers describe a plausible, well-paced story with characters they liked, and the tension holds across more than five hundred pages. Others are left undecided by the ending, where the solution seems to them to arrive almost out of nowhere.
