Our view

“The Hammer of Thor” plays Norse myth for laughs as well as adventure. Magnus Chase and his friends hunt a missing magical weapon and joke through the danger. In this second book of the series the companions stand out: a Muslim girl tested in her faith and a gender-fluid teenager. Some readers find them far more interesting than the narrator; in their view he does not grow.
