Our view

The world gives way to vampires by degrees in “The Fall”, the middle book of “The Strain Trilogy”, and the story holds up well. Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan set it neither before the catastrophe nor after it but in the collapse itself. Some readers find it less propulsive than “The Strain”; others enjoy it more and feel the writing sits more easily on the page.
