Our view

“The Courts of Chaos” closes Corwin’s five-book story in “The Chronicles of Amber” and belongs with the four novels before it. The series’ strengths are still here: the feuding royal family and inventions such as the Trumps, the cards its members travel by. Some readers find this finale less eventful than the earlier books, with the intrigue thinned out. Roger Zelazny wraps it up in 183 pages.
