Our view

“Ruins” carries Orson Scott Card’s Pathfinder trilogy into stranger territory, and suits readers already invested in Rigg and his powers. Some readers enjoy the twists near the end but find the teenage romance weak and the long stretches of reasoning heavy; others tire of the constant quarrelling within the group and like it less than the first book. At over five hundred and forty pages, it leads straight into “Visitors”.
