Our view

“Lasher” continues the Mayfair witches’ saga with Rice’s lush prose and a wealth of family history. Rowan Mayfair is on the run from Lasher, the demon who fathered her child, while the family’s past is filled in, Julian Mayfair’s story included. Some readers find the book drawn out and its parts never quite joined; others find passages disturbing for reasons unrelated to the supernatural. It is best read after “The Witching Hour”.
