Our view
“Harrow the Ninth” keeps the reader in the dark for well over half its length, with a disoriented heroine and long stretches in the second person. For some, the late revelations and the way the book handles grief and trauma make the confusion worthwhile; others find the wait a slog and the cleverness overdone. It is nothing like the first volume in tone. Best for patient readers who enjoy rereading passages and piecing things together.
