Our view
“Excalibur” closes “The Warlord Chronicles” with an ending worthy of the two books before it. Cornwell gathers the characters and loose threads of his Arthurian story, narrated by Arthur’s follower Derfel, and finds room for a few twists in the most familiar of legends. Some readers rank it just below the earlier volumes, yet its elegiac farewell is handled with great control.
