Our view
Robert A. Heinlein’s “Double Star” is a short, well-paced novel that works above all as a portrait of the actor at its centre. The plot is straightforward; the interest lies in how he grows into a political part, in a future where the rights of Martians are a live question. Some readers find its attitudes to women plainly sexist, a mark of the 1950s. Recommended to anyone who likes science fiction concerned with politics.
