Our view

“Dies the Fire” follows ordinary people regrouping after a sudden catastrophe, and it makes an absorbing survival saga. The first Emberverse novel, a spin-off from Stirling’s Nantucket books, spends little time on what caused the disaster and a great deal on how different groups of survivors respond. Some readers find its outlook simple and more hopeful than the subject allows. Those who enjoy heroic stories of endurance will be well served.
