Our view

“Crown of Shadows” brings the “Coldfire Trilogy” to a dark close built on revenge, magic and old secrets finally laid open. Friedman keeps the bleak, adventurous tone of the earlier volumes to the last page. Some readers find it demanding going and think the whole story could have fitted into fewer books, yet see the ending as a strong one. It only works after the first two volumes.
