Our view

“Children of Virtue and Vengeance” is a dark, war-driven sequel about how hard oppression is to end once a king has fallen. Zélie works to bring the maji together, win Amari the throne and shield them from the new monarch. Admirers of “Children of Blood and Bone” often like this volume less: some call it repetitive, some find the characters’ motives confusing. The ending leaves readers impatient for the next book.
