Our view
“Calypso” finds David Sedaris as funny as ever and noticeably more mortal, writing about ageing, family guilt and death between the jokes. The twenty-one essays stay close to ordinary life, from gatherings at the family beach house to domestic squabbles, and some readers describe laughing and tearing up within the same piece. Some skip the cruder bodily anecdotes, while others recommend the audiobook, read in his own voice.
