Our view
“Black Powder War” keeps the Temeraire series on course: a long journey that ends among the land battles of the Napoleonic wars. The fighting can hold even those indifferent to military manoeuvres, and the characters keep growing. Some readers see the previous volume’s pattern return, long travel and then a burst of events on arrival, and want something new by book three. Those already fond of the dragon will be glad of more.
