Our view

“Angels in America” is a vast, ambitious and deeply moving play about being gay in America. Tony Kushner’s subtitle calls it a gay fantasia, and across its two parts, “Millennium Approaches” and “Perestroika”, many separate threads come together. Some readers are struck by how human the characters are, weaknesses and fears included, and by how much hope the play finds in dark material. It works on the page as well as in the theatre.
