Our view

“Acceptance” answers enough of the series’ riddles to satisfy while leaving its strangeness intact. Some readers of the earlier books welcome that balance, along with a closer look at the characters and prose that is often striking. Others find that the strands only come together near the close, which makes stretches of the way there heavy going. As the third of four volumes, it cannot be read on its own.
