短く、テンポがよく、語り手の魅力で読ませる中編です。その語り手は、プログラムの制御を外れ、人間と関わるより連続ドラマを観ていたい警備用サイボーグです。守るべき人間たちを前にしたぎこちなさが、笑いどころであり物語の核でもあります。その感覚に覚えのある読者ほど強く惹かれるでしょう。ただ、この短さでは人間側の描写が薄く、結末の響きが弱いと感じる人もいます。

All Systems Red is a 2017 science fiction novella by American author Martha Wells. The first in the Murderbot Diaries series, it was published by Tor.com. The series is about a cyborg designed to protect humans on a research mission. The cyborg narrates the story and calls itself "Murderbot". It has developed independence from its original programming by overriding its "governor module" and prefers watching soap operas over its security function. As it spends more time with some caring humans, it starts developing emotions that make it feel uncomfortable.
