Our view
“Witch Week” is a sharp, inventive school story from Diana Wynne Jones, the third Chrestomanci book to be published. Some readers delight in its characters, Nirupam Singh above all, and in a magical world built with real ingenuity. Others find the boarding school bleak and object to what they see as fat-shaming jokes and casual racism. Middle-grade readers who enjoy clever world-building will get the most from it.
