Our view
“The Magicians of Caprona” is an inventive Chrestomanci novel about two feuding families of magicians in an Italian city-state. The city depends on spells for its safety; the hero, Tonino, is the one Montana with no apparent gift, and magic here is sung rather than cast. Some readers call it their favourite in the series, and its darker moments can be truly unsettling. It was the second Chrestomanci book to be published.
