Our view
“Wanderers” is an 800-page epic of plague and collapse whose science-fiction core is strong, though many readers feel it badly needed cutting. Some single out the plague, the scientists chasing its cause and a powerful artificial intelligence, and find the later stretch much livelier than the first half. Others object to the way religion and believers are portrayed, and some call the ending rough.
