Our view
“Violets Are Blue” is a dark, fast-moving seventh case for Alex Cross, told in James Patterson’s trademark short chapters. Some readers single out its suspense and a hero as humane as he is clever. Others find the cruelty of the crimes too much, or call the book skippable for anyone not following the series. It leans on earlier volumes and makes most sense after the first six.
