Our view
“Timeline” is Crichton in his element: a scientific premise explained just far enough to launch a headlong medieval adventure. The quantum theory behind the time travel is a clever pretext; the book comes alive in fourteenth-century France. Some readers find one of the central characters grating, or quibble with details of its picture of the past. As fast, light entertainment across five hundred pages, it has aged well.

About the book
Timeline is a science fiction novel by American writer Michael Crichton, his twelfth under his own name and twenty-second overall, published in November 1999.
