Our view
“The Selection” is light, fast romance in a dystopian costume: a royal setting, a love triangle that holds the interest, and a few pointed remarks on privilege along the way. Some readers find the world behind it thinly imagined, and those who want their dystopias worked out in detail may be unimpressed. Taken as easy entertainment and the opening of a longer series, it does its job well.
