Our view

“The Robots of Dawn” is a science-fiction whodunit that matters as much for where it points as for its mystery. Asimov returns to his detective and lays groundwork that links the robot novels to his “Foundation” books, and some readers remember it above all for its closing chapter. Opinions divide on the rest: others rank it below the two earlier cases, finding the dialogue stiff and explanatory and the talk about sex awkward.
