Our view

“The Ring of Solomon” brings Bartimaeus back in a prequel, his wit undimmed and his dealings with humans as entertaining as before. Jonathan Stroud moves the story to another time and place and sets genuine moral choices inside a light-hearted adventure. Some readers place it a little below the original trilogy and find the opening slow; others consider it the best of the four books.
