Our view

“The Missing of Clairdelune” widens the world of the Arks and gives Ophelia a far more public and perilous role. Promoted to Vice-storyteller, she can no longer hide her gift for reading the secret history of objects. Some readers find the characters more rounded and the story more grown-up than in the first book; others are put off by the cold male lead, the romance and the greater weight on gods and mysticism.
