Our view
Greg Heffley, an unreliable narrator if ever there was one, makes “The Last Straw” funny enough for adults to laugh aloud along with children. Some adult readers wish the vocabulary were richer, while granting that the series turns children into keen readers. This third book of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” covers the later months of Greg’s seventh-grade year in journal form and can be enjoyed without the earlier ones.
