Our view

With “The Garden of Rama”, the “Rama” series turns from hard science to a family chronicle. Some find the opening half, centred on Nicole’s domestic life, closer to romance than to science fiction and miss the rigour of the first book. The sections on Richard and on the growing society win some of them back, as do the surprises near the end. It is the third of four volumes.
