Our view

“The Confession” is a fast, indignant legal thriller that uses one false accusation to put the American death penalty on trial. A high-school cheerleader’s murder and the arrest of an innocent man set off a story about how slowly and unfairly the system can move. Some readers welcome an ending that refuses easy comfort. Regular Grisham readers will find him in familiar, assured form.
