Our view

“The Colorado Kid” is a short mystery about the telling of a mystery: two veteran newspapermen walk a newcomer through a death nobody could explain. There is no horror, and King cares more for the puzzle than for its solution, which some readers find frustrating and others count as the charm. Some find the conversational telling closer to local gossip than to a thriller. A quick read for those who can live with open questions.
