Our view

“The Art of War” is best read as what it is: a very short, very old founding text of strategic thinking. Its maxims on supply, positioning and deception are stated plainly, and some modern readers find them obvious, above all when the book is sold as a life-changing business manual. At 66 pages it takes about an hour and is worth it as a military classic; as a secret formula for success it may disappoint.

About the book

Written in the 6th century BC, Sun Tzu’s The Art of War is still used as a book of military strategy today. Using a new translation by James Trapp, this bilingual edition of The Art of War lays the original Chinese text opposite the modern English translation.
