Our view
“Sharpe’s Triumph” is a vigorous campaign novel that puts Richard Sharpe, still a sergeant, beside General Arthur Wellesley in India. Bernard Cornwell ties the plot closely to real events and gives Sharpe a memorable enemy in Obadiah Hakeswill. Some readers single out the battle scenes, where the action barely pauses. It suits readers who want military history told as adventure.
