Our view
“Sacred” is a lively, entertaining third case for Dennis Lehane’s detective partners Kenzie and Gennaro. Some readers relish the pair’s conversations and find it less given to sermonising than the earlier books. Many readers, though, rank it below the rest of the series, and some find the villains cartoonish, the twists too many and the climax overblown. It works best for readers already following the series.
