Our view
“Revolting Rhymes” is a gleefully wicked little book that retells six fairy tales in verse and swaps every happy ending for a surprise. Roald Dahl’s rhymes are grim and very funny, and some readers point out that they keep more of the old tales’ bite than the sweetened film versions. Some also note that Dahl uses words few children’s books would dare. A delight for anyone who likes fairy tales without the sugar.

About the book
Revolting Rhymes is a 1982 poetry collection by British author Roald Dahl. Originally published under the title Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes, it is a parody of traditional folk tales in verse, where Dahl gives a re-interpretation of six well-known fairy tales, featuring surprise endings in place of the traditional happily-ever-after finishes.
