Our view

“Raven’s Gate” opens “The Power of Five” with a dark, unsettling fantasy that draws its menace from occult ritual and old folklore. Some readers find it frightening in places and rate it above the author’s “Alex Rider” books. At 282 pages it is a compact and tense first volume of five.
