Our view
“Necroscope” throws vampires, spies and a hero who talks to the dead into a single horror novel with ideas to spare. Brian Lumley’s series opener runs to 496 pages and counts KGB vampires among its inventions. Readers hooked by parts of it sit alongside those who find the dialogue clumsy, the characters flat and the climax too convenient. There are also strong objections from some to its sexual content and its treatment of women.
