Our view

“Much Ado About Nothing” is a comedy of verbal sparring whose wit hides a sincerity that catches you off guard. Beneath the jokes there are more layers than the genre promises: enemies become lovers while a conspiracy darkens the fun. Some readers never warm to Claudio, however often they return to the play, and some admit that its emotional subtleties slipped past them on a first encounter.
