Our view
“Lord of Shadows” is an emotional, action-heavy middle volume of “The Dark Artifices” that deepens its characters and raises the stakes. Cassandra Clare gives her best pages to the longing between Emma and Julian and to the twins Ty and Livvy, while the story opens up the fae courts. Each respite is followed by a fresh setback. It runs to over seven hundred pages, and some readers feel that is a little long.
