“Locklands” brings the “Founders Trilogy” to a close on a grand scale, eight years on and with the whole world at war. Bennett pushes his blend of magic and technology further once again, and some readers praise characters who have visibly grown across the three books. The ending is bittersweet; others find it not wholly satisfying and think it the better for that.
