Our view

“Little Men” is a warm, amusing follow-up to “Little Women”, and some readers who expected a lesser sequel end up liking it as much or more. Alcott stays with Jo March and Professor Bhaer, now her husband, as they work to turn their boys’ school into a happy place, and the pupils are easy to cheer on. Jo as mother and teacher holds the 282 pages together, and the book has heartening things to say about raising children.
