Our view
“Less” is a comedy of heartbreak that depends almost entirely on its narrating voice. A writer hops from one foreign literary engagement to the next rather than face losing the man he loves, and the satire is barbed, light and, in the end, moving. Some readers feel that little happens and tire of the hero’s gloom and of long, winding sentences; those who enjoy wit for its own sake fare best.
