Our view

“Guardians of the West” opens “The Malloreon” with the assurance of an author returning to a world and a hero he already knows. Garion, King of Riva, is caught between two rival prophecies, and the question of who or what Zandramas is supplies the mystery. The story follows closely on an earlier series, which some readers count as the reason this first of five volumes starts so surely.
